Payto Architects was commissioned to design this 45,000sf new academic facility as a new home for the ever-growing Twinsburg Academic Center. This project contains a variety of instructional laboratory spaces designed to serve the specific needs of each discipline. Chemistry and Biology labs feature wet lab stations for 4 students and ventilation hoods and are connected by a shared storage and prep space. The Physical Sciences Lab doubles as classroom featuring lab tables oriented towards the front for lectures. The most complex laboratory spaces in this building are the nursing skills labs which are modeled after patient rooms for students to enact scenarios with the patient simulator device. The education experience of nursing students is further enhanced by the centers proximity to several prestigous heathcare providers. This project was designed using a variety of sustainable building practices such as daylighting strategies, energy and water efficient fixtures and building systems. The project is currently being submitted for LEED Silver certification.
